About the Artist

Julie Kommer is a Northern Virginia-based artist whose work explores the intersection of realism and impressionism in landscapes, florals, and cityscapes. After a 15-year career in landscape architecture and urban planning, Julie transitioned to stay home and raise her young children in 2022. What began as a personal creative outlet to paint after bedtimes became a professional pursuit in 2023, fueled by the focused perspective of motherhood.

Working primarily in acrylic and watercolor, Julie draws from a career-long archive of photography for inspiration. Her background in design informs her approach to landscapes, cityscapes, and botanical subjects. Julie’s work is characterized by a painterly style that finds beauty in natural imperfections. By balancing representational forms with light and nuanced values, she captures the tactile reality of the world around her.
